Mission Statement

The New York HIV Research Centers Consortium is a collaborative project of HIV research centers in the greater New York area. The mission of the Consortium is to enhance scientific knowledge of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and related issues by facilitating inter-institutional, multi-disciplinary collaborations by scientists affiliated with HIV research centers in the New York region.

The aims of the Consortium are:

  1. To promote inter-institutional exchange of information about our work
  2. To foster inter-institutional, multidisciplinary collaboration
  3. To enhance the dissemination of knowledge to public policy makers, researchers, and HIV-affected communities
  4. To promote the application of knowledge obtained to the New York area and to other domestic and international populations

These aims will be accomplished through:

  1. Regular meetings of representatives from each Center to oversee advancement of the Consortium and to initiate new activities pertaining to its aims
  2. A communication mechanism to foster informal sharing of research developments, newly funded projects, and dissemination of recent publications
  3. Annual conferences showcasing the breadth of research at the Centers and providing opportunities to examine specific issues in depth
  4. Mechanisms for sharing of resources such as through seminars, and by contributing to support for conferences through cost-sharing and pooling of effort
  5. Development of specific products, including a research bibliography of published HIV research in NYC, special issues of a scientific journal, and joint papers
  6. Creation of ad hoc working groups of scientists working in closely related fields, for discussion, writing and journal groups, and joint projects
